And the Winners are... |
The 2007 Youth Media Awards were announced, honoring the best works of last year. There's a special award just for young adult literature. It's called the Michael L. Printz Award or "the Printz" for those in the know. In addition to the big winner, other books are often awarded "honor" status. This year's choices are a wonderful mix of styles and voices, including everything from fantasy to historical fiction, to contemporary fiction to graphic novels. That's right, graphic novels. For the first time ever the Printz was given to a graphic novel, Gene Luen Yang's American Born Chinese, a wonderful work that used three interwoven stories to explore the realities and stereotypes of being an Asian American. The full list of honorees appears below. We'll be posting a more in-depth look at each title in the very near future, so keep an eye out.
